Polygon Chain Development Kit (CDK)

The Polygon Chain Development Kit (CDK) is a modular framework developed by Polygon Labs, the creators of Polygon PoS and Polygon zkEVM. Using an enhanced version of PLONK, a type of ZK-SNARK, this open-source Rollup-as-a-Service (RaaS) solution facilitates the launch and deployment of ZK-based Layer 2 or Layer 3 networks. A notable example using this toolkit is X Layer, a ZK-based network developed by OKX.

Polygon CDK offers developers extensive customization options, including:

Choice between ZK-rollup and validium architectures
Different levels of zkEVM compatibility with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM)
Degrees of centralization (or decentralization) for sequencers
Selection of the settlement layer

Polygon Labs plans to enhance the CDK ecosystem with a unified infrastructure layer called AggLayer. AggLayer combines the best features of both modular and monolithic blockchain architectures, aggregating zero-knowledge proofs from networks built with the CDK. It also provides a unified bridge to Layer 1, improving interoperability and scalability.
