OP Stack

The OP Stack, developed by Optimism, is a modular and standardized development stack offering Rollup-as-a-Service (RaaS). It allows developers to easily build and deploy scalable custom Layer 2 or Layer 3 networks on Layer 1 Ethereum. Designed as a public good for the Ethereum ecosystem, this open-source toolkit consists of various turnkey software components that manage all aspects of blockchain networks. These components cover consensus formation, execution environment, settlement and data availability layers, governance, and more, enabling the creation of not only optimistic rollups but also diverse scalability solutions.

Optimism envisions a unified, interconnected network of Layer 2 and Layer 3 chains built with the OP Stack, called the Superchain. This network includes the OP Mainnet (Optimism’s flagship rollup), Base (a Layer 2 network developed by Coinbase), Mode (an optimistic rollup for DeFi applications), and more in the future. The Superchain aims to achieve “horizontal” interoperability and scalability within the Ethereum ecosystem by sharing and standardizing foundational infrastructure, such as security, upgradability, liquidity, bridge architecture, and sequencer configuration options among networks powered by the OP Stack.
